Entry rules change regularly, so always check official government sources before travel. As a general guide:
- Kenya: most visitors need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA), applied for online before departure.
- Tanzania: most nationalities need a visa, available as an e-visa or, for some, on arrival.
- Uganda: an e-visa is required for most nationalities.
- Ethiopia: e-visas are available for most nationalities.
East Africa Tourist Visa
The East Africa Tourist Visa allows multiple entries between Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda for 90 days — useful for combined safaris. Tanzania is not included.
Passports
Your passport should be valid for at least six months after your return date and have at least two blank pages.
Health documents
A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for Uganda and may be required for other countries depending on your route. Speak to a travel clinic about malaria prevention and other vaccinations.
