Lake Mburo National Park is the closest savanna park to Kampala and a natural overnight stop on the road to Bwindi. Its rolling grassland and acacia woodland support species that are rare elsewhere in Uganda, including zebra, eland and impala, as well as giraffe, buffalo and leopard.
With no elephants or lions, walking, cycling and horseback safaris are all possible, and a boat trip on the lake brings close views of hippos, crocodiles and African finfoot.
