Three nights
Enough for one day in Stone Town and a day on the beach. It can feel rushed.
Four to five nights
Our recommendation. A Stone Town tour, a snorkelling trip to Mnemba and plenty of time to do nothing at all.
A week or more
Ideal for honeymooners, families and anyone who wants to try diving or kitesurfing.
Which coast?
The north (Nungwi, Kendwa) has swimming at all tides and lively sunsets. The east coast is quieter with wide lagoons that change dramatically with the tides.
